In this tour, you will visit the Hakone Sekisho, an important site for the history of transport and communication during the Edo period, and will also get to try Yosegi Zaiku, which is a type of traditional Japanese handicrafts unique to the Hakone area. Afterwards, you will be escorted to a lake cruise at Lake Ashinoko. You will finish the tour at Hakone Open-Air Museum!

  1. Visit Hakone Sekisho. (about 40min)
  2. Experience of Yosegi Zaiku* . (about 60min)
  3. Lunch buffet at Hakone Hotel and enjoy the veiw of lake Ashinoko.(about 75min)
  4. Lake cruise at Lake Ashinoko. (about 30min)
  5. Enjoy sculpture in nature at Hakone Open Air Museum. (about 60min)

*Important Reminder:

-A trial experience of Yosegi Zaiku will take approximately 40 minutes. It requires a reservation at least one day in advance.
-In case of rain or other inclement weather, the tour will make a stop at Pola Museum instead of planned stop at Hakone Open-Air Museum. Due to a scheduled closure of Pola Museum, however, the tour will stop at Hakone Open-Air Museum on September 28 and 29 regardless of the weather.
-Please allow additional travel time during a peak holiday season as major traffic delay is expected.
-The quoted price of the tour includes admission of Hakone Sekisyo and Hakone open air museum, fee of Yosegi Zaiku, lunch cost and fare of cruise.

Highlights of This Tour

  • Hakone Sekisho (Hakone Check point)

    Hakone Sekisyo was built in 1619 by Tokugawa Government to control traffic on the main road between Tokyo and Kyoto, and one of the 53 check gates all over Japan designed to inspect all the travelers who travel domains in Edo period.

  • Yosegi Zaiku

    Hakone Yosegi Zaiku, or Hakone marquetry, is one of the traditional handicrafts in Hakone. This technique was established in the late Edo period. The mosaic work is made by making use of natural fine grains and textures of wood.

  • Lake Ashinoko

    Located in the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park in Japan, Ashinoko, (Lake Ashi) is a wonderfully picturesque lake formed in the caldera of Mt. Hakone after the volcano's last eruption 3000 years ago.

  • Hakone Open-Air Museum

    Established in 1969 and with over 70,000 square meters of beautifully landscaped grounds against a backdrop of the Hakone mountains, this museum has outdoor section, Picasso pavilion, Henry Moore collection and indoor exhibition.
